Supporting Dreamers in Arizona

June 26th, 2020

Last week, the Supreme Court prevented the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program through executive action. At College Success Arizona, we believe that this was the right decision and a just decision. We also understand that the fight to protect Dreamers is still a long way from finished.

In Arizona, Dreamers make up a significant segment of our college-going population. And many of the students we serve through our college access and success programs are Dreamers. They have grown up as Americans. They are motivated to learn and participate in our economy (over 90% of DACA recipients have jobs). They represent what the American Dream is all about.

The Supreme Court’s decision is especially welcome at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has hit immigrant communities and communities of color especially hard. In addition to the increased health risks they’ve been shown to experience, many immigrant families have lost jobs or seen their own businesses struggle. And many have experienced the added stress of the threat of deportation.

In keeping with our mission to break down barriers to college access and attainment, College Success Arizona is committed to supporting all students, including Dreamers, who pursue a college education and seek to contribute to the prosperity of our state.
