Building Innovative Community Partnerships
Building innovative community partnerships that drive postsecondary access and success while encouraging multiple organizations to demonstrate their unique commitment, talents and resources, is a proven model for making an impact. In Arizona, NCAN members, College Success Arizona and Helios Education Foundation are part of an innovative $1,000,000 program to provide scholarships and success services to high-need, high-potential college bound students. Teaming up with Helios and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, College Success Arizona administers awards to eight students each year, over a five-year period, and provides mentoring and additional college success services through graduation. Initiated in 2012, with $500,000 in charitable support from the D-backs Foundation and a $500,000 match from Helios, the unique partnership demonstrates each partner’s commitment to education in Arizona.
Each summer the deserving students and their families are treated to special day at Chase Field, where they are recognized for their achievements. All of the academically gifted scholars have shown tremendous overall merit to be considered for the program, and were identified through participation in a rigorous college preparatory program or similar organization that is a member of the Arizona College Access Network (AzCAN), which is a signature program of College Success Arizona.
