Arizona Businesses Are Starting To Put Their Money Where Their Mouth Is
College Success Arizona knows that it is vital for all Arizonans to have the opportunity to reach their postsecondary goals, and Arizona offers several effective and efficient pathways to take them there. Businesses in Arizona are also starting to realize how important it is for the state to have attainment goals that feature certificates and degrees earned at different types of postsecondary institutions. Alliance Bank and College Success Arizona share common perspectives in the importance of helping the opportunity group of traditionally underserved students, become part of the future economy of Arizona through increased educational attainment, and recently Alliance Bank and others have started to put their money behind their message.
During his speech at the 2015 Leaders & Legends Celebration Luncheon, Robert Sarver, Chairman and CEO of Western Alliance Bancorporation, announced a new $100,000 scholarship, dedicated to help 20 deserving Arizona high school students obtain their associate degree from any of Arizona’s community colleges, beginning in the spring of 2016.
In a press release issued on December 9, 2015, Alliance Bank formally announced the scholarship award.
Along with the scholarships, Alliance Bank is initiating a campaign to appeal to other local businesses in order to raise awareness about the need to improve Arizona’s education system and the importance of workforce development. “We are launching a local initiative to urge other Arizona businesses to help fund college and university scholarships, which have seen financial support plummet in recent years,” said Jim Lundy, Alliance Bank’s founding president and CEO. “Helping to raise Arizona’s college graduation rate is a small investment in our state’s continued economic success.”
It is because of the partnerships we’ve developed with organizations such Alliance Bank, and their generosity, that we’re able to provide the financial support and other services to our scholars. With this generous contribution by Mr. Lundy and Alliance Bank, we’ll be able to help 20 deserving students obtain their associate degree. A degree that they may even use in pursuit of their Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate.
