AmeriCorps: Advise AZ

ABOUT ADVISE AZ

The goal of the program is to increase the number of high school students who enroll and complete post-secondary education. Advisers are current college students or recent college graduates from local community colleges and institutions. Advisers receive intensive training to order to deliver personalized, knowledgeable support on college admission, financial aid and enrollment to low-income, first-generation college, and underrepresented high school students.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Reliable transportation required.
Must live in or near the community in which you are serving.
Segal Education Award. Possible eligibility for forbearance of federal student loans.
Mandatory orientation and training beginning September 2019.

HOW TO APPLY

Please submit a current resume, a list of three references, and an essay addressing the following questions, which also can be found in the Position Description and Application:

  1. Tell us your college story and how it will impact your role as a college adviser.
  2. How will this service position prepare you for your future career goals?

ADVISE AZ HIGH SCHOOL/COMMUNITY PARTNER RFP

The AdviseAZ program will embed well-trained, dedicated, near-peer college advisers in high schools and community sites that serve significant numbers of low-income and first-generation college-going students. The goal of the program is to increase the number of high school students who enter and complete postsecondary education. The advisers are current college students or recent college graduates who are able to help high school students navigate the complex college exploration process, retake college admissions tests, apply to colleges that are a good match/fit, complete the FAFSA, secure financial aid, and matriculate to college.

To learn more about hosting and applying for an AdviseAZ AmeriCorps Member at your high school or community organization, please view the High School/Community Partner Request for Proposals. Applicants should apply as soon as possible as the deadline to complete the RFP is August 1.
