College Success Arizona: Our Efforts in Focus

September 14th, 2017

It is difficult to overstate the importance of education beyond high school to the future prospects of Arizona’s young people. Earning a college certificate or degree can empower them to seize opportunities in our dynamic and increasingly high-tech economy that would otherwise be out of reach. This is more than a matter of concern for individuals and their families; college attainment is a major driver of economic growth in Arizona.

Regrettably, though, there are numerous barriers that stand between many Arizona students and a college certificate or degree. These barriers—including financial constraints and lack of understanding about higher education—are based on both individual challenges and state policies that do not do enough to support college access and success for all students.

College Success Arizona’s efforts to increase the number of Arizonans who hold a college certificate or degree seek to address the sources of these challenges head-on. We directly support students—through a combination of scholarships and mentoring services—to ensure that they have the financial and advisory resources they need to enroll in and complete their course of study.

We also produce nonpartisan research and data intended to inform policymaking that enables more Arizonans—especially Latinos, low-income students, and first-generation college-goers—to enroll in higher education programs and earn a certificate or degree.

As importantly, we assist Arizona’s college access professionals, who are expert guides and information providers for students (and their families) who dream of earning a certificate or degree, through our Arizona College Access Network (AzCAN).
