Robert Davis, a success adviser (mentor) with College Success Arizona says three of the educational nonprofit’s scholarship recipients attended the “One Young World Environmental Summit” at the Biosphere 2 on the U of A campus, “They were really excited to hear some of the speakers and got a whole lot out of it. By the end of the conference they had made some really great contacts and networked really well, as well as I think, gained some inspiration.”

Davis adds developing solutions for climate change and other environmental challenges was a major focus of One Young World, “There was a lot of discussion about identifying the social issues related to climate change and also addressing how to overcome those future challenges. There was a lot of information on sustainability and preserving our dwindling water resources.”

According to the United Kingdom-based One Young World organization, the nonprofit has hosted six annual summits since 2010 – in the process developing a network of seven-thousand young leaders from near two-hundred countries. The organization reports that only the Olympic Games brings together a more international group of young people.

According to the University of Arizona, the Biosphere 2 facility serves as a laboratory for controlled scientific studies, an arena for scientific discovery and discussion, and a far-reaching provider of public education. Its mission is to serve as a center for research, outreach, teaching and life-long learning about Earth, its living systems, and its place in the universe. The Biosphere 2 is also centered on the thinking and understanding about Earth and its future and to be an adaptive tool for Earth education and outreach to industry, government, and the public. There is also a focus on understanding issues related to Earth systems for planning and management for use by policymakers, students and the public.
