Stephen Nehring is Manager of Global Compliance Program at Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, Inc. Before joining Freeport-McMoRan in November 2011, Nehring was Manager of Compliance at Sprint for 11 years. While at Sprint, Nehring was one of 15 individuals responsible for the integration of Sprint and Nextel and the development of Sprint Nextel’s Ethics and Compliance Program. He also supported compliance integration of multiple acquisitions at Sprint Nextel. Later, he designed the compliance organization for Embarq Telecom during the spinoff from Sprint Nextel.
Nehring’s responsibilities include the FCX Compliance Line, investigations, policy integration, employee training, communication and the fraud risk assessment program. He has extensive knowledge and experience in conducting and supervising investigations and supports all FCX locations. Nehring is also the Company’s HIPPA Compliance Officer.
Nehring is responsible for the integration of the company’s compliance program at all locations (including Indonesia, Finland, Democratic Republic of Congo, Spain, Chile, Peru, the Netherlands and United Kingdom). He works directly with the 18 compliance offices and representatives at each of the major company locations.
Nehring has a Bachelor of Science in marketing and management from Northwest Missouri State University and a Master of Business Administration in management from Webster University. Nehring was born and raised in St. Charles, Iowa, on the family farm before going to college. He worked 25 to 30 hours per week to pay for college to be the first in his family to graduate with a college degree. He has counseled numerous high school and college students on following their dreams and to experience at least one year of college to see what life has to offer—whether it is college, trade school, etc. He is a firm believer in giving back to the community and developing kids to their full potential.
